October Brings Cooler Days and Plenty of Ways to Give Back

There is something special about October. The air starts to feel a little crisper, the days become shorter, and before we know it, the holiday season will be upon us. For many people, this is the time of year when we start thinking about family gatherings, holiday shopping, Thanksgiving dinners, and Christmas celebrations.

But here at the Monroe Township Woman’s Club, October also means something else: it is a time to roll up our sleeves, come together, and continue doing what we love most—giving back to our community.

Our members have been busy throughout the year, and we still have plenty happening as we head into the final months of 2026. From supporting our troops and local families to working on projects that provide comfort and assistance to those in need, there are many ways to get involved.

And, as always, we can't do it without the wonderful support of our community.

A Little Holiday Cheer for Our Troops

One of the projects that has kept us busy is our Holiday Stocking Project. There is something very meaningful about putting together a holiday stocking for someone who may be thousands of miles away from home.

Our goal this year has been to bring a little bit of Christmas to our troops and let them know that they are remembered. Thanks to the generosity of our members and community supporters, we are expecting to send more than 60 stockings this year.

We will be collecting the stockings on October 20th from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at the Timberlake Clubhouse.

If you have been working on a stocking and haven't turned it in yet, this is your opportunity. We would love to see those stockings come through the door and know that they will soon be making their way to our service members.

It may seem like a small gesture, but to someone spending the holidays away from family and friends, a little reminder from home can mean so much.

A Raffle That Could Make Your Holiday Shopping a Lot Easier

Of course, our projects require fundraising, and we have a fun opportunity underway that could make someone's holiday season a little brighter.

Our Annual Raffle is now taking place, with the drawing scheduled for November 27th.

The grand prize is a $1,000 Amazon gift card, with two additional $250 Amazon gift cards going to our second-place winners.

Tickets are just $10, and every ticket purchased helps support the work of the Monroe Township Woman’s Club.

Think about it—you could win some extra holiday shopping money while helping us continue our community service projects. That's a pretty good combination!

Tickets are currently available by contacting us at WomansClubMT@yahoo.com.

Thanksgiving Is Coming—And So Are the Pies!

It seems like we just finished celebrating summer, and suddenly Thanksgiving is right around the corner.

If you are already thinking about your Thanksgiving menu, don't forget dessert!

The Monroe Township Woman’s Club is once again taking orders for our Thanksgiving Day Pie Sale. We have seven delicious varieties available, so you can choose your family's favorite—or try something new!

Ordering a pie from the Woman's Club is about more than just having one less thing to prepare for Thanksgiving. Your purchase helps us continue our fundraising efforts and allows us to put those funds back into our community.

So when you are making your Thanksgiving shopping list, consider adding a pie or two to it.

All orders must be placed with Elaine Hewitt by November 6th.

You can reach Elaine at 609-634-2085.

Pies will be ready for pickup on November 24th at the Timberlake Clubhouse.

We think that's a pretty sweet way to support a good cause!

Bringing Awareness to Alzheimer's and Dementia

Not all of our projects involve fundraising. Some are about sharing information and connecting people with resources that can make a real difference.

We are currently looking for senior organizations and communities that would like to learn more about our Lifesaver Project.

This program is designed to help locate individuals with Alzheimer's or dementia who may wander. For families and caregivers, having resources available during an emergency can be incredibly important.

We would love the opportunity to visit senior organizations and communities, explain the program, answer questions, and help spread awareness.

If your organization would like us to come speak about the Lifesaver Project, please reach out to us at WomansClubMT@yahoo.com.

Sometimes the most important thing we can give someone is information that could help when they need it most.

Wrapped in Warmth: Our Project Linus Effort

There is also something wonderful happening with our Project Linus effort.

Our community has been busy creating handmade blankets through crocheting, knitting, and quilting. We are currently getting close to 30 blankets, and we couldn't be more excited about the generosity that has gone into every one of them.

There is something special about a handmade blanket. It takes time, patience, creativity, and care to make one. Every stitch represents someone's willingness to sit down and create something comforting for another person.

If you crochet, knit, or quilt and would like to contribute a blanket, we would love to hear from you.

Please contact Patti Lamplugh at 856-885-0814 for more information about donating.

And if you have been thinking about learning how to crochet, knit, or quilt, perhaps this is your sign to give it a try!

More Giving Is Just Around the Corner

As we move closer to Thanksgiving and Christmas, our list of projects continues to grow.

We are preparing for collections to benefit a local shelter, including pet food, blankets, towels, and toys. We are also planning to provide Thanksgiving Day meals for local families who may need a little extra help during the holiday season.
